Description

In a synod held in Rome, presided over by Pope Gregory V, and with the presence of Otto III, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, and Count Ermengol I d’Urgell, the deposition of Guadall, the intruder bishop of the see of Osona, takes effect, and the legitimate bishop, Arnulf, is confirmed.
The papal and imperial intervention reflects that an apparent internal conflict in a bishopric of the Spanish Marche, to which the count’s intervention had already granted the status of a civil or political conflict, was relevant enough to merit the attention of the representatives of the two highest powers of the time.
