Description

The portrait of Cardinal Josep Maria Vives i Tutó, made between 1975 and 1999, is a visual testimony of a Catalan ecclesiastical figure with great international projection. Born in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Vives i Tutó played a prominent role in the Roman Curia and was a firm defender of dialogue between peoples and cultures within the Catholic Church. His career reflects the active presence of Catalans in European and international institutions, and his figure symbolizes the connection between spirituality, diplomacy and cultural identity. This portrait not only has artistic value, but also symbolic value, as it represents a Catalonia open to the world, capable of influence and committed to universal values. The document links to the European dimension of Catalan heritage, showing how religious figures have also contributed to the construction of a plural and dialogic Europe.
