Description

The drawings by Carles Fontserè made in the concentration camp of Les Haràs (Perpignan) in 1939 are a direct and striking witness to the drama of the republican exile. Through vivid and expressive strokes, Fontserè portrays the daily life of refugees, capturing the dignity and suffering of thousands of uprooted people. This graphic document, preserved in the Arxiu Comarcal del Plan de l’Estany, exemplifies how art can become memory and denunciation. It is also an example of the connection between Catalan history and the great movements of forced displacement that have marked European history in the 20th century.
