Description

A representative of Spain calls the headquarters of the EEC and tells the man who opens the door that now yes, indeed, they are democrats.
Spain entered the European Union in 1986 after the signing of the Madrid Accession Treaty (1985). The first steps to join the European Economic Community (EEC) began during the Franco dictatorship, in 1962, but it was not until the arrival of democracy that the procedures could begin. In 1979, the year of publication of the present joke by Jaume Perich, negotiations began that would not culminate, as has been said, until 1986.
Jaume Perich was an incisive and innovative author who developed his professional work in the last years of the Franco dictatorship, during the transition and in full democracy. His drawings, closely related to the political, social and cultural activity of the country, appeared published in newspapers, weeklies and humorous magazines, often combative and topical. Its fund contains a total of 7,774 jokes, some of which were published in newspapers, weekly magazines and magazines, others censored and unpublished, unfinished and unidentified.
