Description

This document is part of the national literacy campaign promoted by the Franco regime, and highlights the institutional effort to reduce illiteracy, especially among women. Although the initiative responded to a real need, it was also part of an educational policy strongly ideological and controlled by the regime. Female literacy, in this context, was presented as a tool for moral training and submission, rather than emancipation. Despite this, many women took advantage of these spaces to access knowledge and expand their personal horizons. This document is part of the theme of the “beats of Catalan society” and education, and is a valuable source for analyzing the relationship between gender, education and power in Francoist Catalonia.
