Description

The Moorish artist Julio Antonio (Móra d’Ebre, 1889, Madrid, 1919) was one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century, although his artistic career was cut short by an early death. In 1969, in order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of his passing, his hometown dedicated a meaningful tribute to him, which was recorded by Enric Borràs i Cot, a member of the Móra d’Ebre Association of Friends of Photography and Cinema. In this recording, in addition to sequences of the entourage, a mass in honor of the sculptor and a floral offering to the sculpture dedicated to Julio Antonio – also the work of the Moorish sculptor Santiago Costa – you can see the Technical Institute of Second Education, now the Julio Antonio Institute, where the art critic Rafael Santos Torrella gives a lecture on the sculptor, as well as an exhibition with the original work of the Moorish artist, which had recently been acquired by the Provincial Council of Tarragona.
