In a corner of the Broc\u00e0 valley, in 889, Sicomares and his wife Oreta sold a small “villa” to Count Guifr\u00e9 I of Barcelona and his wife Guinidilda. This seemingly simple gesture hides a great transformation: the consolidation of the county power and the beginning of a new territorial organization in Catalonia. The document containing this, written on parchment and preserved in the Archives of the Crown of Aragon, is the oldest preserved in this collection. It is part of the legacy of the monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, founded by Guifr\u00e9 himself, a symbol of the union between political and religious power. This parchment tells us about a foundational time, when Catalonia was beginning to chart its path within feudal Europe.
