Lloren\u00e7 Tom\u00e0s i Costa, son of the Seu d&#8217;Urgell, was one of the churchmen with the most political prominence during the War of the Spanish Succession, linked to the Austrian party. After the conquest of Barcelona by the Bourbon army on September 11, 1714, Lloren\u00e7 Tom\u00e0s i Costa went into exile in Italy and, subsequently, in Vienna. He held, among other positions, that of regent of the Col\u00b7lateral Council of Naples at the court of Emperor Charles, who granted him the title of marquis, accumulating a large fortune throughout his life. After his death in Vienna in 1738, in 1754 his remains were transferred to the Seu d&#8217;Urgell.<\/p>\n<p>His numerous possessions were sent to his place of origin, La Seu d&#8217;Urgell, some of which still adorn the most noble rooms of the city of Urgell as a result of their sale in order to endow the foundations and pious causes he had instituted.
