In 1326, the notary Guillem Graner drew up a certificate of presence that recorded the oath and homage of Ferrer Babot’s mouth and hands in the royal battle of Piera. This document, preserved in the heritage fund of the Can Margarit farmhouse, is a direct testimony of the vassalage relationships that structured the feudal society around Pened\u00e8s and Vall\u00e8s. The act of oath, formalized before a notary, symbolized the vassal’s submission and loyalty to his lord, and at the same time guaranteed protection and rights over the land. This type of document reflects the importance of public writing in the consolidation of the feudal order and in the transmission of power and responsibilities.
