The French War meant an attempt to change different uses and customs of the Pyrenean communities, among them the repeal of the employment rights known as patzeries (“lies et passeries” in France), even those that were recognized in the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659) where the border line was established and the different rights of reciprocal use of some border towns to communal ones the other side of the line. A good example is the document we are presenting, a letter from Commander Llad\u00f3s to his French counterpart in Salau (France) for the arrest of a shepherd from Al\u00f2s d’Isil who was taking his flock to graze in the Salau communal farm.
